My name is Ankhi.
I grew up in New Zealand, on a farm near Hamilton. I enjoyed the rural environment and I would often sit and look out over
the green undulating hills, leading up to a beautiful mountain range
about 20k away. I liked to visualise myself cantering on horseback over
these hills, feeling the breeze on my face. This gave me a sense of
freedom. I liked to climb the pine trees near the house and sometimes I
would look after a lamb if it's mother had died.
I had a pet calf who
was very placid and gentle and she won many ribbons at agricultural
shows.
Despite the peaceful outer environment, my home life was far from peaceful and I remember from quite a young age thinking that there must be peace somewhere in the world, and that somehow, someday, I would find peace. I often wondered about our existance here on earth; why we were her and where we were going. Gradually, I was drawn to yoga and Eastern teachings and eventually I heard about Sri Chinmoy. I joined the Sri Chinmoy Centre in 1978. His writings, based on the Hindu philosophy were so refreshing; so easy to understand and to put into daily practice. Gradually all my questions were answered and I now feel much more contentment and happiness in my life.
