Home Page for Dragana

This is a site on running and spirituality. Here you can find thoughts of inspiration and wisdom that might inspire you to undertake running, if you have only started considering it for its numerous physical and psychological benefits, or encourage yourself to some of the longer distances, the marathon in particular, if you are a more serious runner.

"The outer running is a powerful struggle for a great independence. The inner running is a soulful cry for a good interdependence. Independence brings to the fore what we unmistakably have deep within: a freedom-smile. Interdependence makes us conscious of what we eternally are: a oneness-satisfaction."

marathon trainingHello and welcome to my home page. My name is Dragana, and I live in Melbourne, Australia. My hobbies include reading, philosophy, meditation and - yes... running!! - despite being far away from an excellent runner: my running results are average, if not occasionally substandard, but no one can take away the joy and happiness which the mere act of running can bring me and which I usually experience.

For a large part of my life I have been greatly inspired by a spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy who firmly believes that the physical and the spiritual can and must go together.  A 100 metre sprint and decathlon champion in his youth, he has completed 22 marathons and 5 ultramarathons, and set many weightlifting world records, and is a founder of the worldwide Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, which sponsors 500 athletic events annually.

It is now well known that physical exercise can alter hormone levels within the body and have a positive effect on our moods. Meditation offers similar benefits, helping release stress, anxiety, depression. Furthermore, it provides a calm to modern life which is hard to describe and often can be achieved in no other way.

-Training for a marathon-June 2005-                                  -At Wilson's Promontory-

"Try to be a runner, and try all the time to surpass and go beyond all that is bothering you and standing in your way. Be a real runner so that ignorance, limitation and imperfection will all drop far behind you in the race."
- Sri Chinmoy

"Who is the winner? Not he who wins but he who has established his cheerful oneness with the result, which is an experience in the form of failure or success, a journey forward or a journey backward."
