Melbourne Marathon, 2005

My Experiences Running The Melbourne Half Marathon

It was a crisp morning and an early start. There was two of us from the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team running the Half Marathon, and three running the full distance.

We arrived at the start at 7am and had an hour in the freezing cold, trying to find a windbreak before the start of the race. Time seems to stand still when all you want to do is run!

Veeraja from the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team was involved in the set-up of the race and was actually starting the Half Marathon event, it was nice to have his calming voice at the start, and some of the runners nearby commented: “It’s Mr Sri Chinmoy! I wonder if we are going to have a moment's silence before the start of the race…”

There was a river of people, 3200 participants in the half marathon event, all making their way to Melbourne city along the bay, with a strong cross-wind. We all started too fast as the staters gun went off!

A gorgeous course and loads of drink stations.

I loved it and can’t wait for my next race!

Inspired to train harder and faster, I will do a better time next year….
