Life Can Be A Meditation
Imagine yourself as the creator of a new world. Imagine the beauty of an earth without tears. - Sri Chinmoy
When a child is raised with meditation as part of their life since before they can remember, sometimes it is hard for them to recognise what the benefits actually are. I asked my 14 year old daughter, Plabita, who was only 8 months old when I began meditating at the Sri Chinmoy Centre, how she thought meditation helped her.
“I don’t even know how to meditate!” she replied.
“Well, what are you doing when you sit down to meditate first thing in the morning?” I asked.
“I just sit there and try not to think!”
“That is meditation,” I told her.
And then I reminded her of other things in her day. “When you try not to think badly of others, that is meditation. When you work quietly and conscientiously in our café, The Blue Bird, when you took care of a fallen baby bird until it could fly, when you try to be honest in your actions even when others cannot see you - all these things are your meditation.”
It was funny how reminding Plabita how living spiritually helps her showed me how it helps me too. I could see how all our actions done with a sincere feeling of bringing our own best qualities forward create peaceful ripples in the world all around us.
The prayers and meditations Of the whole world Dream of only one thing: Harmony. - Sri Chinmoy.
