I remember my first
experience of spirituality: when I was in primary school, there was a
lady in our town who used to organise the children to do a procession
in the church on Easter Saturday night. Dressed in long white
smocks and holding candles, we would walk slowly down the centre aisle
of the church, in darkness, except for our candles. When we
reached the altar, there would be a soulful, choreographed dance
performance. It was magical.
During my teens and early twenties, the jury in my head was out on
the whole God thing. I was too busy having fun to devote any time
to that question. Then I discovered the practice of yoga and
gradually through the discipline of the physical postures, I had a
glimpse again of what it felt like to be whole, to be at one.
My interest in the spiritual aspect of yoga led me to India in
search of 'experiences'. It was only on my return to Ireland that
I finally found what I was looking for, a teacher who could guide me on
the spiritual path to oneness.
The philosophy and teachings of Sri Chinmoy are inspiring and practical and have helped me to see the richness and fullness of life and the opportunities we have at every moment to be happy and at peace.
I've written quite a few poems on my experiences as Sri Chinmoy's student, you can read them by clicking here.........
