Home page for Prashanta

A very warm welcome to my home page. Here are some special moments and photos of my life with Sri Chinmoy, my meditation teacher and guiding light.

I had an extremely happy childhood as the youngest of five, with a doting mother who always saw the best in all of her children. Her favourite encouragement was 'Just do your best!' before we faced any new challenge in life. Her great wisdom and love influenced all our lives more than she would ever believe and certainly was a quiet and steadying part of my development towards seeking spiritual fulfilment.

I always felt there was more to life than what I saw before me but have no idea how I was guided to my teacher, Sri Chinmoy. Only he knows this journey and I am sure I needed much prodding and assistance to get it right and come to his Path.

My husband, Kishore and I have been meditating under Sri Chinmoy’s guidance now for over 30 years and have been fortunate enough to be part of many experiences in which small and great lessons in real spirituality have been imparted by his loving concern.

Countless meditations, talks, concerts of spiritual music and singing, sporting events, dramatical performances and art exhibits, all given or inspired by Sri Chinmoy, have shaped my life. I am eternally grateful to my guru for his inner and outer guidance in every aspect of my life.

In my working life I enjoyed working in libraries for several years before Sri Chinmoy inspired me to open a health food shop in an inner suburb of Melbourne, which operated for about 10 years. It was an opportunity for me to put my meditation into practice and I learned much about human nature. I now work for one of Australia’s major communications companies in training and customer service.

After many years of running, which I enjoyed immensely, I have now become an avid cyclist and enjoy morning rides on many of Melbourne’s bicycle paths. We live close by the Yarra River, Melbourne’s main waterway, and can follow its meandering trails for many kilometres. A favourite ride leads to the Studley Park boathouse, where morning or afternoon tea provides welcome and inviting refreshment.

Prashanta – the spiritual name given to me by Sri Chinmoy means ‘the one whose soul embodies sublime peace, fathomless peace, whose entire being is inundated with peace’. I am naturally drawn to the ocean and always feel a deep peace when I am near it.

With a great friend, Vidagdha accompanying Sri Chinmoy with students from around the world, on a meditation retreat to Bali.

A ride by the ocean . . . I have had a fondness for horses since childhood, and have enjoyed riding occasionally on our international meditation retreats.

My older brother David, here seen in Annam Brahma restaurant in New York,  has been a great friend and supporter in all my endeavours, and especially as a student of Sri Chinmoy. David has developed a deep admiration and inner bond with my teacher over the years.

This is my most favourite picture of Sri Chinmoy.
