Once again
By dreaming the impossible.

My flatmate Atul was unusually quiet yesterday afternoon. As I sat to eat dinner he told me that he attended a work conference that day, where one of the delegates dominated the group discussion period, interjecting repeatedly and showing little respect for his fellow presenters. Atul was shocked by his inconsiderate actions never experiencing this type of behaviour before. I told him not to be too surprised, it was a display of ego.

The following morning Atul's feelings really touched my heart and I began to reflect on the negative power of the human ego.

Since meditating with my spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy, I have become increasingly aware of the affect our actions have on others. Like throwing a pebble into a pond, each action travels like a ripple, radiating away from the doer to the reciever. Each ripple for example can be one of selflessness, compassion or love, bringing happiness, or one of selfishness, intolerance or mistrust bringing unhappiness. So clearly we have a choice, but how do we consciouslessly offer the former, one of positiveness?

Having been more ego based prior to meditating, I have experienced first hand that while functioning from the limited reality of the physical mind, you rarely have the ability of spending extended periods in the positive. But once you start experiencing the love, beauty and oneness of the spiritual heart through the silence of meditation, you develop a greater awareness of the repercussions of your actions and how they affect others. Now this is a giant step forward in itself, because now you are conscious.

Through meditation there is a gradual transformation that takes place from within, an inner blossoming that radiates from a deeper realm of wisdom through to the outer reality of your thoughts and actions. Spontaneously you now offer thoughts and suggestions that will unify, support, encourage and compliment. Here we have overcome the division of the ego, offering instead the unifying qualities of the spiritual heart.

And so through meditation the developing consciousness to see with 'awakened eyes' and act with an 'open heart' begins to manifest itself in all aspects of your life. You gradually become the embodiment of your highest spiritual qualities by transcending the limitations of the physical mind. And you wonder why your meetings are running more harmoniously and you are now content and happier?
