Several hundred privileged guests witnessed a most intimate and extraordinary concert at The United Nations in New York this August. The guest performer was the renowned Boris Purushottama Grebenshikov the musical icon from Russia (Purushottama is known as the Bob Dylan of Russia). The name Purushottama meaning ‘the one who is beyond all limitations' was given to Boris by Sri Chinmoy. A few hundred of Sri Chinmoy's students were at this concert, as were many hundreds of Russians living in the New York area, Russian diplomats, embassy staff and officials, and Sri Chinmoy.

Purushottama performed all but one song in Russian. As I sat I was aware only of the beauty, sensitivity, uplifting and hauntingly beautiful flow of Purushottama's lyrics that completely filled my being lifting and expanding my heart, embracing and flooding it with a sublime and peaceful radiance, offering me a rare experience of the inner depths and joy of my soul's reality.

After that concert Purushottama then performed for Sri Chinmoy and his students at another venue in New York the next day. After this concert Sri Chinmoy asked his students to come forward and express what they felt. Many, many beautiful comments were given, and I the next day had this awareness of Purushottama's music...

A beautiful pink lotus blossom nourished by Purushottama's poetic melodies slowly opens in the stillness of the morning light. Each opening petals reveals the soul's of millions of aspiring Russians, each flooded by the fragrance of the blossoming flower. Hour by hour as each petal in turn opens to the rising sun, more and more aspiring soul's are nourished, until finally all are bathed by the warmth and embrace of God's Golden-Light.
