I must begin my life
Once again
By dreaming the impossible.

The Small and Big I Am

Small I am: a playful imp,
Laughing long at my own quips,
Tarrying on chocolate drinks
And platitudinous thinking.

That You would even care to
Button me into a pocket
Like an interesting shell;
Not a rare keepsake even.

Rummaging for pen or key,
Finding me again instead,
Rolling me for weight, or
Testing for my glint in light.

While You’d have me think I’m bigger,
Small does feel a better fit:
Low reach for benignity;
High for dignity and latitude.
