To Beauty

Where will you not tag your name:
Graffito utterly indelible
As in a dream or a haunting
Its sempiternal chant

Stately in the viol’s husky ornament
Ample in the resonance of bees
Ecstatic in the God-thirsting Qawwal
Soft in a mother’s inflection

The curve of the freesia
And of swallows in a unified direction
The keeping of an orderly collection
The finished face of steel

Exacting in the panoply of words
Carefree in the urchin’s disarray
Brief in the glance of a finch
Long in the gaze of a widow
