I must begin my life
Once again
By dreaming the impossible.

When some cold lassitude mounts;
When bolder than a fleet of me
An ounce of you would seem,
I follow your endeavour’s stream.

When doleful or in fear I wallow;
Wont to chase some baser dream,
What brilliant beam your soulful might:
A light in my far hermitage.

Of me all that you know: all that I show
Of me and my traversing
Of life’s enravelled mystery,
Long travelled with you conversing.

Most bare my coffer, driest my jar
When debt defies measure.
Accept my one prevailing treasure:
I offer you my love.
