To Strength

More in the snail’s exposed ascent
And spider’s open failed attempt
At bridging stems in a parsley row
Than in the jackdaw’s bullying crow

More in the show of a violet’s face
Or grass that springs in a desolate place
Or a cygnet as she tugs at flight
Than in the eye of a hunting kite

You lend the branch a firm repair
To reach unfolding full and fair
Bound to share and cast off censure
Stretching blind to new adventure

Less in thoughts of complex coldness
Or the balsam of another’s boldness

Than in the knowing space between
