Morning Shows the Day
7 Ayurvedic steps to having an perfect day.
Ayurveda is at once a most intricate science practiced since ancient times in India, and an embodiment of truth, philosophy and harmony of ones inner and outer being. These basic steps are simple, yet they encompass the wisdom shared by the great Rishis - seers of truth.
- As soon as you wake up, breathe in three times the feeling of gratitude, offering thanks to the Creator and creation.
- Whilst still lying down, place your finger under your nostrils and feel which side is functioning stronger - use that side of your body to get yourself out of bed. This gives your body more life energy.
- Look in the mirror, and pull funny faces in the reflection, until it makes you smile. This is something children instinctively do.
- Take a shower - not to hot has this can be damaging to the bodies cells, or to high in pressure.
- Once showered apply oil, preferably sesame oil as this is closest to the bodies own naturally produced oil, on the entire body. This feeds all the subtle nerves. However if short on time, massage oil into the feet and apply three drops of oil on top of the head. This creates serenity and tranquility in the mind.
- Put on some light, loose fitting clothes then take a glass of warm water. By adding a few drops of lime, this alkalizes the body.
- Prepare for meditation by lighting some incense and sitting down with your head and neck in a straight line. Choose a mudra and mantra if desired to begin with, and meditate for around half an hour. This nips unwanted, distracting thoughts throughout the day, as well as bringing into the system peace and light.
"If we meditate soulfully in the morning and receive peace for only one minute, that one minute of peace will permeate our whole day. And when we have a meditation of the highest order, then we really get abiding peace, Light and delight. We need meditation because we want to grow into Light and fulfill ourselves in Light." - Sri Chinmoy.
