Daily Practice
Sri Chinmoy’s teachings are not a philosophy or religion but a way of life based upon the harmonious development of our entire being – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual – leading to the blossoming of our many potentials and to a sense of inner fulfilment.
By meditating regularly, we find that meditation naturally extends into our daily activities and gives them a new inner depth.
Unlike
the spiritual seekers of the past who chose the path of renunciation
and seclusion, Sri Chinmoy sees meditation as a way of accepting the
world around us.
Living in the Western world we cannot meditate
24 hours a day. This path is one of living and working in society
– not mechanically, but with the heightened awareness that meditation
brings.
Sri Chinmoy encourages his students to
incorporate other disciplines that sustain the inner momentum
of meditation and help spread its fragrance throughout the day:
Daily meditation
Meditation is most important because it allows us to access our soul’s capacity everyday.
The soul’s light over time illumines our fears, doubts, anxiety, tension, and all the other negative behavioural habits that we have accrued.
These limitations slowly start to peel away like the layers of an onion, making way for the higher qualities of the soul -peace, joy, love, gratitude and fulfilment. This process allows us to grow into our true selves and discover our real purpose in life.
Reading Spiritual Books
Reading spiritual writings is another way to keep the inspiration and aspiration we receive in our meditations.
Sri
Chinmoy has written over 1,500 books covering all aspects of the search
for the true self. His words resonate perfectly with the yearnings of the soul, succinctly answering the questions of a sincere spiritual seeker.
Writings are another vehicle spiritual masters use to teach and
guide their students. It often happens if a seeker cries for an
answer to a particular life issue, then opens a spiritual book, then
the answer can be found therein.
Singing
Sri Chinmoy holds that in the spiritual life, singing is next to
meditation. The songs we sing are mostly selected from the more than
17,000 Sri Chinmoy has composed from the depths of
his meditation. Such music resonates readily with the
soul, making it an easy and joyful way to enter into a meditation.
Such songs can be used to lift us out of states of depression, loneliness, insecurity and all the other limitations that bind us. They can also help expand our higher more illumined feelings of gratitude, divine love and inner peace.
