16 Tons In One Afternoon
On a rainy Sunday afternoon in New Jersey, Sri Chinmoy embarked upon an incredible weightlifting session that saw him lift 16 tons worth of cars, motorcycles, boats and planes in the space of an afternoon.
Sri Chinmoy lifts seaplane; the lift height is shown on the dial to Sri Chinmoy's right.
These lifting achievements are Sri Chinmoy's way of giving a practical demonstration of the unlimited potential of the human spirit. With his weightlifting he hopes to be an example to inspire others to pursue the highest goals in their own field of activity. With these lifts, he is also trying to encourage others to put aside their mind's doubts and follow their heart's dreams. "The mind hesitates, the mind doubts our capacities", he said when interviewed during the lifting event. "But if we live in the heart, this problem does not arise." Just four days previously, Sri Chinmoy lifted the world's smallest horse as part of this inspiring program.
Some of the lifts:
- An 'Ultralight' airplane weighing 424 lbs, lifted with only one arm from a seated position.
- A Stearman biplane and pilot weighing an enormous 2,952 lbs, lifted with a standing calf raise. (see photo)
- A BMW ISETTA Microcar weighing 1,011 lbs lifted in an overhead two leg calf raise
- A 1,290 lb FIAT 500 lifted in an overhead two leg calf raise.
- A Hobi 16 Catamaran boat weighing 424 lbs lifted overhead with one arm only from a seated position
