Sri Chinmoy Lifts The World's Smallest Horse
As part of a program called Lifting Up the World with a Oneness-Heart, for many years Sri Chinmoy has been expressing his appreciation to men and women who have uplifted the world with their deeds and actions—by lifting them overhead in body and spirit using a specially created lifting apparatus. However, this is the first time he has offered the award to a horse!
Thumbelina however is more than deserving of the award, having worked tirelessly to raising money and awareness for children in need around the world.
"If anyone is right for the job, it is Thumbelina,” say her owners.
“Every day, thousands of people fall in love with Thumbelina and every day, she gets one step closer to fulfilling her mission (of raising $1 million for children).
It is amazing to witness such a tiny, loving creature accomplish such great works. She is a blessing that we are thrilled to share with the world."
Sri Chinmoy also honoured Thumbelina's owner Michael Goessling and her handler Tago DePietro as part of the award.
There were a total of three different lifts during the award ceremony. First, Mr. Goessling carried Thumbelina as both were lifted overhead by Sri Chinmoy using only his right arm to—a total of 301 pounds. Then Sri Chinmoy lifted Thumbelina standing on a platform as shown in the photo. Finally, Sri Chinmoy used a modified seated calf-raise machine to lift Mr. Goessling, Mr. DePietro and Thumbelina together—a combined weight of 567 pounds as Thumbelina stood between her owner and handle—and he lifted them 33 times!
Over the past 40 years, Sri Chinmoy has dedicated his life to the pursuit of World Harmony and to the fulfillment of the unlimited potential of the human spirit. He has striven to inspire the world through a wide range of initiatives that have included millions of people in grassroots, heart-to-heart programmes such as the World Harmony Run and the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. With his weightlifting feats, Sri Chinmoy hopes to inspire people to in turn strive to better themselves in their own lives.
