Sri Chinmoy receives awards in Mongolia - and performs another lift!
Sri Chinmoy was honoured by President Nambaryn Enkhbayar of Mongolia two days ago with a national award for his promotion of world harmony and for his contributions to the people of Mongolia.
Sri Chinmoy came to Mongolia at the invitation of President Enkhbayar to participate in 8 days of “The World Oneness-Heart-Songs in Mongolian Life.” His activities in Mongolia include an exhibit of his paintings and drawings at the State Academic Theater of Drama in the capital Ulan Bataar, where he was presented an award by the Union of Mongolian Artists, an appearance on Morning Guest on Mongolian national TV, and a launch of the World Harmony Run , a torch relay connecting citizens of over 70 countries around the world.
In addition, on the windswept plains of Gachuurt just outside Ulan Bataar, Sri Chinmoy lifted some of the famous himor, or “wind horses” of Mongolia, both physically and symbolically. The horses, brought in from the Bayanzurt Mountains, were guided on to a special platform of honor. Sri Chinmoy lifted the horses 2 or 3 at a time in a series of six lifts. In this way he lifted 16 horses (plus another lift with horse and rider, shown below); Sri Chinmoy was in turn honored with the gift of two white horses.

Sri Chinmoy composed a song for the occasion:
“Mongolian white horse, Mongolian white horse, Mongolian,You give me the joy and pride of a real Olympian.”
Sri Chinmoy, noting the service that horses offer to mankind, says that the spiritual quality of the horse is sacrifice. The lifts - weighing a total of 17,000 pounds, with the heaviest one weighing in at 2421 pounds - are a vivid expression of Sri Chinmoy's concern for the well-being of these free-roaming horses which are the symbol of Mongolia’s ancient nomadic culture. Mr. Hamid Sardar, who located these beautiful horses for Sri Chinmoy to lift, was moved to comment “For Mongolians, the horse is the symbol of humanity’s inner strength and spirit; by lifting these horses, Sri Chinmoy is lifting the ‘windhorse’ or the inner Spirit of all Mongolia.”
