Deep Gratitude

Deep Gratitude

During the Christmas trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in December 1998, Sri Chinmoy and the disciples stayed at the Pan-Pacific Hotel, where I work—which was how I met Sri Chinmoy. One of our staff members in the Housekeeping Department, Ms. Thavamani, had been diagnosed with heart problems by a medical specialist, and had been told she should go for open-heart bypass surgery in about two weeks' time. She was quite worried, and at that time she came to know of Guru's presence in the hotel. She realised Guru's holiness and felt that receiving the blessings from a genuine spiritual Master could revive her faith. She tried to find an opportunity to receive Guru's blessings, and eventually approached one of the disciples to help arrange for her to meet Guru. A day later, the disciple managed to fulfil Ms. Thavamani's request. On that day, when she came to see Guru, he was using one of his exercise machines. As she approached Guru, she was in a state of complete helplessness. She fell down on her knees and tears were running down her cheeks. Guru looked at her most compassionately. He closed his eyes and held his hand out above her head, and blessed her for about three minutes. About two weeks later, we heard that her bypass surgery had been cancelled, and that she only had to go for some minor procedure. Even our hotel doctor, who knew of her medical problems, was surprised to hear of her cure. Now Ms. Thavamani is perfectly energetic. She always talks about Guru's greatness and how he is in her heart, and offers her deep gratitude to Guru and the disciples for helping her.
