Sri Chinmoy Concerts

concert

From 1984, Sri Chinmoy performed his meditative music free of charge at almost 800 concerts worldwide. During these concerts, Sri Chinmoy played his own compositions and improvised on a variety of Eastern and Western instruments. He typically performed on a dozen different instruments and, on occasion, played up to 150 instruments in a single concert. He performedvenues all around the world ranging from Carnegie Hall, to London's Royal Albert Hall to the Sydney Opera House.

"I feel that when I play soulful music and when I sing my spiritual songs, I can offer whatever peace I have to humanity. The peace-lovers who come to listen inspire me, and I inspire them. Everything is based on inspiration. If we are inspired, we will become good citizens of the world."

During the concerts, Sri Chinmoy often played anything from 15 to 20 instruments, ranging from the traditional Indian esraj, his favourite instrument, to dynamic piano and synthesizer improvisations.

The music and songs of Sri Chinmoy were composed and performed in a meditative mood. While his performances on Western flute and Indian esraj evoked an atmosphere of profound and fulfilling peace, his astonishing keyboard improvisations manifested a most dynamic spiritual energy.

A reporter for the French newspaper Le Monde wrote:

"One had the feeling that the audience had come not only for the music, but also for what was between the compositions, that is, the inner peace that the sounds only served to prolong."
