An instrumental tale

page created by Shane Magee last modified 2008-02-22 11:23 PM

Out of all the instruments that Sri Chinmoy plays the Indian esraj, a bowed instrument with a haunting sound, is his favourite. In this story Harkara Urmoneit of Germany describes how one day, completely out of the blue, Sri Chinmoy asked him and friend Pramodan Gmeiner to make an esraj—despite neither having any traditional instrument making skills.

What followed was a rollercoaster ride taking the two friends from New York to the Black Forest to Australia, and illustrating that when you can let yourself become an instrument of a higher purpose, anything is possible!

You can read the story in English or German.
