Ever thought you would like to break a world record? Ashrita Furman does - all the time! His latest victory took place in Scotland where he bounced on a pogo stick - while holding a wee pooch.

and a strong will to transcend
his limitations.

Ashrita Furman - who, for his troubles, has earned the tag Mr Versatility - defines the time honoured expression, "You can't hold a good man down!" Recently congratulated by the good folk at Guinness World Records for breaking his 100th world record, Ashrita might have been forgiven for having a year off - retiring from the game even! But not this lad.

His most recent record - number 102 - came in Scotland during a visit to that brave land at the behest of the Guinness book editor, who challenged Ashrita to come to his native land and honour Scotland by breaking his next record there. The rest, as they say, is history.

A health-food store manager from Queens, New York, Ashrita is also a student of the spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy and credits the inspiration he receives from meditation and Sri Chinmoy - himself an avid sportsman and strength athlete despite his 74 years - as the foundation for his capacity to keep doing these unusual feats of athleticism and endurance. "I'm trying to show others that our human capacity is unlimited if we can truly believe in ourselves," he says. "I am not a natural athlete, but my teacher has shown me that if one can be in touch with one’s inner spirit, anything is possible."

Check out Ashrita's website for the complete low-down on a guy who currently holds 30 world records and visit Radio Sri Chinmoy to hear an interview with Ashrita on BBC Scotland.
