No Operation

"No Operation"

Every year, maybe since fourth grade, my brother Roopak has played basketball. Usually try-outs were after school, but for his freshman year in high school they were on the weekend. My parents drove him there, but I stayed home because I was tired. After a few hours, when they hadn't come home or called, I paged my Mom. She called back and said they were on the way to the hospital because Roopak had broken his leg. He was on a fast break, and when he went for the lay-up he twisted his knee. His knee locked and he landed with his leg straight. I immediately called Nishtha and asked her to tell Sri Chinmoy if possible. Meanwhile, my parents took Roopak to the nearest hospital emergency room, only to find a waiting line of about twenty people. Not only was the line long, but they were taking patients in the order in which they arrived rather than severity of the injury. They later told me that the man in front of them had a chicken bone stuck in his throat. So they left and went to another emergency room about half an hour from there. While all this was happening Roopak's knee was rapidly swelling. The next thing I heard from my parents was that the doctors wanted to cut open Roopak's leg to relieve the swelling. I called Nishtha back and told her. A few minutes later she called back and said Guru had clearly said, "No operation!" I called my mother, but what could they really do to stop it? The doctors were in charge. They put Roopak in a MRI, which was supposed to last 20 minutes, in order to find the spot where the problem was. Two hours later Roopak was still in the MRI. The doctors could not find the actual problem spot, so they did not operate. Guru's wonders never cease!
