Guru's Compassion

At our horse farm in Austria, my husband and I take care of about 25 Arabian horses, some of which belong to other people. One mare that had a seven-day-old little filly at her side was examined by the veterinarian. Afterwards, the mare was bleeding and I was a little bit worried. Sometimes it happens that the intestine is torn and the horse has to die. The vet said that I should wait a few hours and call him if the mare’s condition got worse. In the evening it was worse but the vet was not available. The mare was lying on the ground, which was a sign that she was in great pain. The baby was standing helplessly beside her suffering mother with her little head over the nearly lifeless body. The mare was rolling her eyes and biting with her teeth-inwardly I felt she was near death. I could not bear the situation, especially as I knew this was the only horse of a particular lady, who loved her very much. Feeling very desperate, I prayed intensely to the ­Supreme, but to my astonishment I heard Him laughing and laughing. Somehow I knew that the Supreme is all Delight and suffering is only an illusion. But I was in ­despair because I had assured the lady I would take care of her mare, and I was not able to keep my promise. Not sure what to do, I ran up to my room and sat before Sri Chinmoy's picture. I felt that Guru's Oneness-Heart can understand human pain and despair. With my loudest voice I was crying to him. After fifteen minutes, I went down to the stables. The mare was standing and looking quite normal. When the vet came, he could not find anything wrong. I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for Guru’s immense love for his children, and that Guru’s compassion cared also for my little horse-friends from the animal world.
