In The Dream

In The Dream

One Monday in August 1995, my roommate told me about a strange dream she had had that morning. My roommate is a dear friend; we see eye to eye on just about everything. Although she is not a disciple of Sri Chinmoy, she is one of the very few persons with whom I can freely talk about my spiritual life. I had told her a lot about my Guru, and she had seen him twice. My roommate said the dream had to do with her foot, which had been injured three days before on Friday. She had stepped on a rusty nail while sweeping the patio. The nail was about two inches long and it had penetrated deeply into the heel of her foot. The pain was excruciating and the wound bled profusely when she removed the nail. She remained in her room almost all of Saturday and Sunday because of the throbbing pain and her inability to walk. She knew that it would not be possible to go to work on Monday and wondered how she would break the news to her employer, who depended on her presence. In the dream, she was lying in bed when two figures draped in white from head to foot appeared. One was a human being; the other was a small animal like a cat or a dog. Then my roommate continued: "They were walking over my feet. I could not see their faces, so I tried to guess who they were. I first thought the tall figure might be a young woman I know well, but dismissed the thought because the figure was too large. Then I thought it could be Martha's Sri Chinmoy! But why would he come to me when I have nothing to do with him?" Then she woke up. It was about 3 a.m., the time she usually gets up. She went about doing various chores as always. At about 8 a.m. she took the bus, got off and was walking toward her workplace when she suddenly remembered that she was supposed to be at home nursing her injured foot. She stood still for a moment, astonished that she was not feeling the pain that had bothered her so much all weekend. She put in a whole day's work, and when she arrived home, she told me her story. We were both very curious to see the condition of her injured foot. She removed both her socks and raised one foot and then the other several times. She could not recall which foot had been injured! I carefully examined the soles of both her feet, and there was not a trace of evidence of a recent wound. My roommate repeatedly exclaimed: "It's a miracle! It was Sri Chinmoy! I can't believe it!"
